Burnham Harbour entrance on the North Norfolk coast.

See & Do (Burnham Deepdale, north Norfolk)

Whether you are a walker, a cyclist, an adventurer, a beach lover, a historian, a nature lover, bird watcher, food sampler, shop browser or just want to relax, on your own, with friends, as a couple or a family, Staithe View is a perfect place to base yourself.

There are various maps, brochures, (even menus!) in the cottage to inspire you but… here are some of our favourites…

Dalegate Market, Norfolk

For the explorers and adventurous, just a 2 minute walk away is the North Norfolk Information Centre (across the road at Deepdale Market ) where the friendly staff will certainly point you in the right direction. You can access whatever you need to know for all your walking, cycling and adventure activities.

For a more casual stroll, amble up to Brancaster Staithe Harbour, watch the boats and activities and visit the famous Crab Hut for a fresh treat. The summer sunsets from the harbour can be spectacular.

Beach lovers

Don’t miss out on Brancaster beach. Miles of clean sand perfect for picnics and sandcastle building! There is a small café, public toilets and beach shop plus easy access parking. Watching the seals basking or ‘entertaining’ in the estuary is a must. Holkham beach is equally spectacular.

Local historic houses and grounds

These offer a full and exciting day out. Follow the links to what’s on offer at:

  • Holkham Hall, only a short drive away, lots to do – and if time, include a walk on Holkham beach.
  • Sandringham House – the most beautiful Royal residence and gardens ( plus a great café and very regal shop!)
  • Wiveton Hall – whether you’ve seen the TV programme or not, definitely worth an outing.

Wells-next-the-Sea, NorfolkExplore the coastline

The immediate coastline is a nature lover’s paradise.  Bird watchers can visit the RSPB centre at Titchwell Marsh or perhaps look no further than the back bedroom window to see a host of bird life on the salt marshes.

We are never disappointed when taking an early morning or evening walk out on the coastal path behind the cottage; it’s truly a world on its own.

Shopping, browsing and taking tea!

Embark on a cycle ride or short drive to visit the delights of Burnham Market. Slightly further afield but offering equally delightful individual shops to explore, is the small town of Holt.

Hunstanton offers a traditional seaside flavour day out, as does Cromer, with fun activities and plenty of ice cream! Blakeney and Wells-next-the-Sea are similar but smaller centres.

The seal viewing boat trips from Blakeney are very popular. All these places are on the Coasthopper bus route, a relaxing way to explore – getting on or off the bus is very convenient from Deepdale Market.

Wining and dining

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to good pubs and eating places. The area is a food lover’s paradise!

One of our favourites for dining is The White Horse, a 10 minute stroll from the cottage, also wonderful are The Duck at Stanhoe and The Lifeboat at Thornham; there are so many to recommend.

Eating out is both easy and a delight. Also within walking distance is the Jolly Sailors, a family pub with great pizzas …and don’t forget the café across the road, perfect for breakfast, lunch and all day refreshment.
